If you have a small kitchen, you are well aware that extra storage room is tough to come by. Here are some great ways you can creatively utilize your cabinets to create more space, while helping your kitchen feel more spacious and still maintaining great style.
LOOKING TO REFACE YOUR CABINETS?
If you are remodeling or designing your small kitchen from scratch, consider extending your cabinetry as high as possible and building all the way to the ceiling. The tallest cabinet spaces can be used for extra storage, wine shelving, or even as a decorative area.
Lighten & Brighten Up
Keeping your kitchen light and bright will make it feel much more spacious and open. Think white or light colored cabinetry, walls, and backsplash. Too dark of colors can tend to box the space in and make it feel more compact. Also, keep your ceiling and cabinet color tones close; if they contrast too much it will make the space seem smaller.
Cabinet Door Storage
Attaching shelves, hooks, or racks to the interior of cabinet doors can almost double your storage capacity. Use this area to store coffee cups, pot and pan lids, mixer attachments, or even measuring cups and spoons. You can also keep clutter off your countertops by keeping your “fruit bowl” in a wire rack on the inside of your cabinets. The inside of your cabinet doors is also a great place to keep photos and shopping lists, instead of cluttering up your refrigerator.
Glass & Mirrored Cabinet Doors
Any shiny or reflective surface will help enlarge your room. Try glass inserts or mirrored cabinet doors to give the illusion of more space while amping up your kitchen style.
